2008 Sweet Adelines Region 3
First Place Quartet!
Chi-Town Sound has recently become known for their unique “ringy” sound, which is well suited for the Barbershop style! Although originally formed in 2005, the recent addition of Shelley and Cathie’s voices has molded the sound of Chi-Town into something truly special.
Tenor Shelley Austin won her first “Gold” with Georgia Jive in 1999. She has since adapted her lifestyle to fit the Chicago ambiance, including singing with the World Champion Melodeers Chorus. With 5 children and a very loving husband, she is able to juggle everything needed to keep life in line and still have time to add her wonderful icing to the sound of Chi-Town!
Vanessa Tulley, our wonderful Lead, born and raised in Wilmington, Illinois, has recently packed up and moved her family of 7 to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Although the cheese is plentiful and football is fine, she has found that she is truly a Chicago gal, and is actively trying to move her flock back where they belong. With a complete disregard to ugly gas prices, she drives down to Illinois at least twice a week; giving a beautiful melody to Chi-Town’s sound as well as singing with the World Champion Melodeers Chorus.
Chris Dunham, our brilliant Baritone (also known as “Phil”, because she fills the chords so well!), has been a member of the Midwest Crossroad Chorus since 1991. She is what we call a “Barbershop Brat”, because she grew up listening to her mother sing with the Sweet Adelines. She has a Dental practice in Joliet, and lives in Minooka, Illinois. Her passions are golf, spending time with her nephews, and singing baritone. It’s that harmony thing!
Last, but never least, our Bass, Cathie Zimmerman, also happens to truly be “the Blonde”! Although she technically resides in Milwaukee, she has a Chicago state of mind. Having sung on the International Stage a number of times before, Cathie knows exactly how to lay down that Bass foundation for the newest Chi-Town Sound. As a brand new member of the Melodeers Chorus, she is scurrying to learn all of their music and choreography. Prior to joining Region 3, Cathie earned the title of Master Director with the Riverport Chapter in Region 22.
Chi-Town Sound has most recently won the honor of Sweet Adelines, Intl. Region 3 Quartet Champions, and will have a chance to spread the sound of Chi-Town all the way to Hawaii in November!
Sit back and enjoy the Chi-Town Sound!
